Five poems for Brooke Marie
“Raven was the one who brought light to the darkness”
Miwok MythOne
My life is a letter home
caught in a dust devilspinning wildly.
My hopes have beenmistreated by the waitress
with the bad hipOur loves wear us
out till we are bornagain in our
weariness —that’s when
I saw you dancingin the Laundromat
and called you out.Two
If you open your dress
I will draw two ravenson your breasts
and a 100 psalmson your belly.
If you wear mewear me passionate.
In the space where welove, sparrows have nested.
The tide has risen;how many stars
swirl at you feet?Three
Your body is water
quivering from my breathYour eyes are two roads
that ask to be traveledYour hair hangs down
for me to climb back homeand I will weave new
mornings from the strandsFour
The moon
has stoppedto watch us,
and danglesher feet above
the water wherewe swim.
She risesslowly above
us, looking backwhile the night
gathers up thedreams of all
those dreaming,into bouquets
as we drifthalf awake
half innocent,our nakedness
a boat gently rocking.Five
breathe in
breathe outnow be still
with memy love.
let our —faces pressed
togetherbe the evidence
of all the beautifulthings to come,
so that inour gaze
fate willbe helpless
and the birdsI have drawn
on your twoperfect breasts
will abandonthe ground,
forever.
I will draw two ravens

Such a passionate series of love poems…I read first one yesterday, but it was good to see the whole series. I love the image of the moon in poem #4…such fantastic lines.

Emotive, expressive, sensual…a wonder. Neruda and Cohen are clapping. Great work, Chris.
